Jeremiah 52
When the king of Israel, Jehoiakim, saw the power of the Babylonian he tried to find some way to make peace. This started by him paying an annual tribute to Nebuchadnezzar, which let the Babylonian king know he was officially in charge. He started the beginning of many deportations of the Israelites from Jerusalem to Babylon. There are many parts of the Old Testament that speak about these events. The one that sticks with me the most is how Jeremiah weaves God’s hope with how to live victorious in exile (Jeremiah 29:5-7). The women bring a piece of Jerusalem with them as they travel to a foreign land where they will experience God’s grace as if for the very first time.
